it hasn’t been all bad.

And now for my 2016 update. I didn’t expect that it would be a year.
It started off rather poorly. It has been a year of second guessing my career choices. A year of wondering what it is that I really want to do. While I’m certain that I will in time/life be pushed further, it has been a year of being pushed to my limits. 65 hour work weeks, managing more expectations than I thought I could handle. Struggling to prioritise between having a job, having a job that allows me to also have some semblance of a life, having a job that I feel that I’m good, and having a job that makes me happy.
Somewhere amidst all of that introspectiveness, I found a way to balance work and life a little better. Finally, in my fourth year of teaching here in London, I have managed to avoid bringing home any work for a whole term. This is a huge accomplishment. It is very likely a result of finally having my own proper work space and teaching solely Maths. I might even go so far as to say that it’s been quite an enjoyable term.
That said, the term is over. A new one awaits me in January, which also sees a change in management. The rest of the academic year is hidden in shadows, no doubt full of surprises. The pessimist in me dreads it. I am applying for a new visa, which will give me the freedom to change job should I so choose.
Navigating the UK visa system’s been a treat. I don’t have much more to say on that.
In the past year, I’ve made it to Amsterdam and to Krakow. And back to Niagara! We’ve had numerous opportunities to meet up with good friends here and there, catching up over good beer in busy cities.
As we approach 2017, I am also approaching my 30th birthday. I intend to celebrate it with singing and career counselling.
